Today we headed out to the ChimeLong Paradise themepark in Guangzhou. I went with 4 American teachers and 1 Phillipino teachers and 3 Chinese TA’s. They are all awesome people who I get along really well with.
The theme park was smaller than say Six Flags or Wonderland but it had some really fun rides and a few pretty unique ones. At the entrance they have cosplay people you can pose with.
The first coaster we went on was really interesting because it’s famous for flipping you upside down more than any other roller coaster I’ve seen. I think they call it the 10 inversions because you’re upside down or corkscrewed around 10 times.
The next ride I found more fun cause of the unique way you ride n it. It’s a motorcycle coaster and you ride it as if you were on a sweet racing motorcycle. It blasted you off the starting line and went really fast.
The next ride was sweet because you were all strapped to a giant skateboard on a massive halfpipe. You absolutely get the feeling as it goes faster and faster that you’re going to completely fly off the top.
We also found a really cool Frisbee ride. This thing swings back and forth and spins slowly, I think it might have been the fastest I’ve ever been swung through the air… I loved it!
One thing you learn about Chinese people, as soon as it rains for the first time, is that if they aren’t planning on going swimming, they are terrified of getting wet! Nevertheless there was a couple water rides at the park. The thing is though, in line they sold rain suits for $1 each. My reaction was whats the point of a water ride if you don’t get wet! Out of all the people in line it was just me and my friend Josh who decided not to buy the suits. Everyone in line pointed at us in disbelief and told us we were crazy and that we should really put on the suits and the ride runner just shook his head with a silly foreigners expression on his face, it was pretty hard to believe!
In the raincoat wearers defense, we did end up getting ridiculously soaked… but that was kind of the point!
If seen a couple live action shows as theme parks before and they are usually decent, but maybe slightly lame or short or uneventful, but the show we went and saw here was by far the most awesome show I have ever seen in my life!! It was called danger island, and it’s basically just about a band of rebels soldiers fighting against a evil military presence on an island but it was intense!
There was huge realistic gunfights, kung fu battles, sea doo action, motorcycles jumping off ramps, atv chases, massive explosions, big machine guns, people on fire, people falling out of towers, a submarine, an airplane crash, massive flames everywhere! It was so wicked!!
It also helped that I had the absolute best seat in the entire stadium, all the action and motorcycles and fighting was only about 15 feet in front of me because I was front and center. (The reason I got this seat is because I was in the splash zone where the seadoos get everyone wet… and ya, no one else wanted to sit there!)
The show totally blew my mind though, it was really intense and frightening and suspenseful and just awesome. It really felt like you were in an action movie rather than just watching one.
The park had a fun atmosphere to it and some cool statues and artwork, this white tiger statue was my favorite.
The next show was a 4D show, it’s like a 3D movie but with the added dimensions of feeling what you see, like your chair moves, water is squirted at you, your chair pokes you in the back you can smell some things ect. One really awesome thing about Chinese people that I’m a little envious of is how much fun they can have in something like this, while the Americans and I were just sitting there thinking ooh look at the 3d thing coming at me that’s pretty cool all the Chinese people were screaming and laughing and freaking out over it all. I found my own enjoyment in the show though, I thought it was hilarious! It was supposed to be about Dinosaurs according to the sign, but after about 2 minutes it turned into this crazy adventure with a dragon going through time and teleporting to alien spaceships and shooting fire at robots and then going back in time and then after that nothing made any sense at all and everything got crazy ridiculous and it just kept cutting from one crazyness to another and then a dinosaur was hatching from an egg and another one farted and the dragon grabbed a robot and pow-drived him into a volcano and they fought in the lava for like 5 minutes then came out unharmed then they were in the jungle then it started snowing and the whole time my mouth was hanging open with the biggest WTF expression on my face. I came out of that movie convinced the maker of it was on serious drugs!…but somehow I seemed to be the only one who noticed how funny it was. I wish I could search for it on youtube. (But it’s blocked in china)
Like you have to do at every theme park (no matter how old you are) we went on the bumper cars! Then beat each other senseless with huge hammers.
We finished the day with the biggest coaster in the park, it’s the only coaster I’ve been on where the drop is straight down, actually I think its slightly steeper than straight down it bends backwards slightly. Anyway it was incredibly suspenseful as the ride gets slower and slower and slower as you approach this massive drop, then it freezes for while you’re hanging over it for like 5 seconds of terror. It was a blast and we all got to sit on it together in the front row, I was real happy to see even the girl who had never been on roller coasters before today and who said there was no way she would come on that ride managed to get the courage to do it in the end!
Overall awesome day at the park.
