Christmas in China

Merry Christmas everyone!

(I know it’s a little late, but I wanted to post the inspirational life challenge first!)

It was definitely a little weird being away from home for the first time on Christmas. When I left for China I actually wasn’t sure if they celebrated Christmas at all. Luckily they do more and more every year. It’s nowhere near as important here as it is back home, but they still put up Christmas trees in public places and display decorations and some people give each other little Christmas gifts. It was a little sad to not see any of my immediate or distance family like I’ve done ever year at this time, but luckily I have some pretty awesome friends in China and we had a Christmas Eve I’ll never forget!

I spent the night with ‘the girls’ my totally amazing friends Bowie, Helina and Angela, my really good friend Matt and my new friend Simon. We decided to head to V-Mix our favorite club for the night. I’m not sure if Angela and Helina had ever been to a club before, and it was definitely our first time all going partying together as a group so we were all pretty pumped!

At the club they gave our Santa Claus hats, balloons, and a bunch of party swag to play with. The girls definitely made the party gear look good!

V-Mix was packed and set up with some pretty cool performances on the center stage. There were singers, dancers, balance artists, jugglers and more!

We ate a load of delicious snacks, including watermelon, popcorn, oranges and….. Chicken Feet ahhhh!

After a couple shows they asked for volunteers for a contest. I was still pumped from my inspired life challenge and trying to keep my ‘try everything’ mindset so I practically stood on my chair so I would be seen in the crowd of people putting up their hands. I got picked and ran up on stage having no idea what I was in for. I was up there with 6 other Chinese guys and 1 Chinese girl. After a lengthy explanation in which I had no idea what was said it was the first guys turn. The host queued the music and it turned out it was a sexy dance/fashion show kind of competition. We had to dance from the back, along the stage, pose when we got to the end then dance our way back as attractively as possible.

I was nearly last to go. The Chinese guys and girl did a pretty good job with some grooving dances and fun poses. When it was my turn I decided to try to take it to the next level. After dancing to the end of the stage I struck a few sweet poses then did a half strip showing off my chest hair hahaha. After that I grabbed a girl from the audience bent down and kissed her hand. That type of thing is seen as way crazier in china than back home so all the girls went Wooooooo! I couldn’t help but laugh at myself after dancing back to the group.

After the last dancer they took a vote where you scream for the number of the person you wanted to win. It was so thrilling when they held up number 7 for me and all the girls went “YEEEEAAAA!” 😀

It was the first time I had ever won something like that, it was so much fun! I won a big teddy bear.

I gave the bear to my friend Angela, she has helped me with so many things since I came to China and she’s such an awesome friend.

The night went awesomely, then near 12:00 things got even wilder. All the performers throughout the night came back with Santa Claus outfits and gave out presents to the audience.

Then at the stroke of midnight they made it snow!!

It looked really amazing. The entire club had soft white snow falling down. I thought it was really stunning.

Looking around at all the snow falling, all the amazingly happy people, after making an unforgettable memory, and seeing the smiles of all my awesome friends, I was almost overwhelmed by the awesomeness of it all. I felt so amazingly happy.

Life really can be an amazingly joyful experience.

Good thing we finished our snacks because they were covered in snow!

We went upstairs after and hit the dance floor. Bowie had gone home at this point but it was awesome fun to dance with Helina and Angela for the first time. Angela apparently hadn’t danced in years but she knew some really hot dance moves! I also got Helina to get over her shyness and dance on the bar with me. It was so much fun.

Matt and I started another energy ball dance, it worked out much better this time! Everyone got into it a little!

I grabbed a rose for some sweet photos.

The night was really amazing. I think it was my best night so far in China. Great friends, great parties, great memories… oh and balloon hats!

Man I love China.
